Gentle and Calm Gynae Specialist in Johor Bahru Found in Kempas Medical Centre

Ready to go inside Delivery Suite.
As an expat parent living in Malaysia, perhaps this write-up can help everyone to decide where to deliver their most precious little ones.

This time around, allow me to express my notes of experiences with one of the best Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O & G) in Johor Bahru or perhaps in Malaysia for his gentle and good coaching during the delivery of our second baby at Kempas Medical Centre in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

By the time we suspected that we have a new baby, it was actually Dr. Kevin Bartholomew Lawson who confirmed it. From there, we continued to monitor the growth and development of our baby from 6 weeks old onwards until we finally heard our baby’s heartbeat, identified her gender, and monitored her weight until she was finally delivered.

I was at my workplace when my wife told me that her contraction comes in frequently. I packed my things and ask permission from my superior to have an early time off. My wife messaged Dr. Kevin about the situation and he immediately responded: “Okay, come quickly to Hospital then”.

We went to the hospital together with my mum-and-law and my 2-year old son. Dr. Kevin phone called the Midwife to quickly check the heartbeat of our baby and to monitor the contraction of my wife.

Just like a good Doctor, he came to the hospital at around 7PM. At that time, it was confirmed that the opening of the birth canal was about 3CM and needs more time to make it a bit wider.

He asked me to get into the labor room, while my wife was on the bed and monitoring her contraction. I look at him in the eye and even though I’m serious at the time, he managed to calm us down and explain to us the situation. This is what I like about him, he explained the situation in a way that we can understand his message (as some doctor uses technical medical terms which makes it more complicated for the patient to understand).   He uttered those word: “Relax… everything will be all right” and he held my hand with a firm gesture which I sensed as a representation of the word “we can do it”.

Sister Elizabeth, at that time, was the Midwife and Dr. Kevin instructed her to check my wife condition following the dose of those pill needed to thin the cervix because it was still thick. Throughout that night, my wife was in labor waiting for the right time.

Kak Zainab Team
At around 7AM (following day), sister Elizabeth came to us and prayed for my wife, at that time my wife was already in 4CM.

At around 8AM, after my wife took her breakfast, we went into the delivery room to check the contraction.  My wife already feels the pain and another team of a nurse came in to attend my wife’s need inside the labor room. It was the team of Kak Zainab and Kak Nordin (there were two other nurses but I forget to get their names). They did the standard operation procedure for a woman to deliver.  They are all helpful. Dr. Kevin comes into the delivery room to check on my wife’s situation. And from there, he confirmed that the birth canal is already within 4CM so, at around 9AM, Dr. Kevin advised to put in the drip to quicken the opening of the birth canal of my wife.

At around 10:30AM, Dr. Kevin already confirmed that the passage is at 9CM which makes all the nurses and midwife busy preparing their medical delivery equipment. The upper headlight is on making it a sign for me to say “this is it”.
Dr. Kevin calmly advised my wife to be focused.

At that time, Dr. Kevin sat beside my wife and holds her hand.  My wife wants to start the process of pushing out the baby but Dr. Kevin said, “wait, let’s go for the right timing” as he monitors with the machine. “Don’t waste your energy, you can push it when you feel the pain”, he added.  He gave good coaching to make the baby out of the womb to make it a normal delivery. I was there beside my wife to support and assist her. I like the tone of Dr. Kevin, it was very calm and gentle.

At 11.15 my daughter finally came out to this world with a big mash of cry. All of us in that delivery room were all smiling as the baby is very big with 3.73 kg. Dr. Kevin asked me to cut the umbilical cord that connects my wife and my daughter. At that time, I feel like I’m in a “ribbon cutting ceremony” while cutting the umbilical cord.

Then Dr. Kevin asked me to go to the other side of the delivery room as he needs to do the stitches that need to be done. While he is doing the stitches, he shared some stories about “Leonardo Da Vinci” and actually those words didn’t register in my mind as I am much focused on the condition of my wife and my daughter.

At this point in time, I am a witness as to why Dr. Kevin has a lot of positive reviews about his profession. I can say that he is well experienced in this field. He knows how to coach her patient in order for them to make it more comfortable.

Thank you, Dr. Kevin, and I hope that you will continue to be humble and passionate in your profession to make other people’s lives easier and making the delivery of every mother to be comfortable and convenient.
