Renewal of Philippine Passport To The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur

Source: Google
My passport will actually be expiring next year 2018 and My Spouse Visa will be expiring on the 8th of August 2017. And since my visa is expiring, I asked some spouses from my network about this scenario and they just told me to better renew my passport before I proceed to another renewal of Spouse Visa with Multiple Entry in Malaysia.

So I went  up to Kuala Lumpur from Johor Bahru and submitted the necessary requirements to renew my Philippine Passport.

The requirements are just simple:
  • Passport Application Form (FA Form 79) (2 pages) – you can download this to the website of the Embassy of the Philippines Kuala Lumpur
  • Original passport
  • Photocopy of your Philippine passport data page
  • Photocopy of your Endorsement/ Visa in Malaysia
  • Supporting Documents
    • Applicants’ Birth Certificate
    • Marriage Certificate (Authenticated by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs)
    • Malaysian Spouse (IC)- Photocopy
  • Consular Fee of RM255

The Application Form
According to the Embassy of the Philippine Kuala Lumpur,  “personal appearance is required for all passport applications (first-time application, renewal of expired passport, replacement of lost or mutilated passport, amendment of passport, extension of passport) in as much as the biometrics of the individual, which includes his/her photograph, fingerprints and signature, will be taken”.

For those who want to avail of the two-year extension of their old passports due to early renewal of work permits, this can be accommodated if they only renew their passports.

For children age 7 years and below, their fingerprints and signature will not be taken; a parent will sign on their behalf.

Procedures when applying for a Philippine Passport:
1) Get a queue number;

2) Wait for your number to be called at the screen;
3) Proceed to Window 1 and submit the required documents;
4) Please wait for your number to be called for the payment;
5) Proceed to Window 3 for the payment;
6) Please wait for your number to be called for the data capturing and encoding at Door 1;
7) If desired, arrange for delivery of the processed passport by mail or courier: Applicants can bring along a pre-paid, self-addressed envelope during processing or may make arrangements at the courier service counter at the Consular Section waiting area.
(note, as of June 2017, there were some arrangement made inside the Consular- it’s a bit smoother compared from the previous one).

Release and Claiming:

  • Passports usually arrive from Manila one to two months from the date of application.  You can check online “passport finderTo check if you passport is ready for pick up.
  • If no prior arrangement for the delivery of the passport has been made, the applicant may personally claim the passport at the Embassy, bringing the official receipt and old passport; or
  • The applicant can also request a representative to claim the passport, bringing along the applicant’s old passport, official receipt, duly notarized authorization letter and an identification card/passport of the authorized representative.
  • For applicants 17 years old and below, only a parent is authorized to claim the minor’s passport. Please bring the old passport of the minor, passport of the parent, official receipt and birth certificate of the minor.

As additional Notes:
a.    I highly recommend that you must get a photocopy / Xerox copy of your original documents before you go to the embassy because the photocopy price inside the embassy is really expensive (as of May 2017, each copy will cost you RM2).
b.    Get also something to read for you to do something while waiting for your queue number to be called.
c.     For your travelling needs, better use Grab because it’s really convenient. Just download the app and you don’t need to get taxi because taxi fare is damn expensive. (I’m not promoting this app, but actually its really helpful).
