Car Tinting is a Necessity in Malaysia

As to my settlement here in Malaysia, I found out something useful not only to me as a future father, but also something helpful to all folks out there owning either a brand new or second hand car.

When I took my car for testing,  the first thing I noticed was the car air-con. I was a bit shocked as I was driving the car in high level air-con for about 25 minutes, yet I was still sweating inside the car.

You might question me, suspecting that the car air-con is not working well. However, the air-con is doing great. So I asked Steven Goh, my trusted car salesman friend about this and he told me about TINT

So I asked him again about "tint". Like how on earth tinting has to do with air-conditioning inside a car? Because for me, all I know about car tinting is designing the style of your car. He explained to me a lot of things and recommended me to see a friend of his named Ivvy Yu from this certain tinting accessory shop within Johor Jaya.

When I took the car from Steven, he gave me a 150 RM voucher for tinting services in that shop. My mother in law and I met this wonderful lady who patiently explained to us about car tinting. As a foreigner, I was able to understand why car tinting is important:
  • Car tinting is not only to design your car, but also to protect you from both UVA and UVB ultraviolet rays. Car tinting is important, especially for working professionals, parents and young adults in Malaysia because too much exposure to UVA and UVB is not good for health.
  • Car tinting makes the air-con cooler inside the car. Ms. Yu explained this by having a demonstration in her office/workshop. She was very patient in explaining things to us. I found out that tinting is also designed to reject up to 61% (depends on the quality of solar tint you are using) of the total solar heat, making your car cooler while driving - city drive or long distance drive.
  • Car tinting is also a protector from glass shattering.
So when I took my car for tinting at her workshop, she further assisted me to the do's and don'ts when taking a car for tinting:
  • She followed the guidelines of JPJ for car tinting. She informed us about the permitted visible light transmission (VLT) which states that: a. Back windscreen: 30% (down from 50%); b. Back passenger windows: 30% (down from 50%); c. Front windscreen: 70%; d. Driver’s window: 50% and  e. Front passenger window: 50%.
  • After the car has been installed with tint, don't use the car demister for two weeks.
  • Do not use the power window for 48 hours to let the tint dry properly.
  • One year warranty. This depends on the shop where you have your car tinted.
So I guess, when doing car tinting, it is also advisable to let your dealer explain certain things, especially these matters. It may be a small matter but once you are caught by any JPJ officer, that is already within your jurisdiction - TO PAY FOR THE CORRESPONDING PENALTY.

Encountering the customer service of Ms. Yu was spectacular. This is my first time to encounter such a professional business Sales and Marketing Manager lending us her company car to go to the nearby shopping complex while our car was being tinted.
